The photo collection Advertise Proudly is full with ads of past times- even though they got on the pictures incidentally. On the beach, at a dog show, newt to the map of the reclaimed Transylvania, on the phone booth, on the May Day decoration, behind the lovely ladies, everywhere. Incidental content is one of Fortepan's great strength.<br />Having a close look at this book may incite good laughs: the ads of the party-state promoting services without competition, the continuous education of the public or the enthusiastic celebration of national holidays all seem funny in retrospect. It is easy for the onlooker today: photography's greatest ally is time. This book -just as Fortepan's archive- ends in 1990. When compared to the frightening turmoil that followed the change of the regime we might feel: "Those were the good old days."Here are 100 photos on how ads tried to influence our ancestors.
