Quo Vadis Hungaria?

The real change came after 2014: the true reorientation in foreign policy can be felt since then. The clear attachment to the West has been replaced by some kind of obsure 'bridge role' between East and West, and the so-called 'peacock dance'. A spectacular rapproachment has begun between Hungary and Russia, not only in trade but also the field of politics. Hungary has also developed close political relations with China that go far beyond economic rationality and interests. Orbán continued his policy of spectacular rapproachment, with illiberal Turkey and many other authoritarian, repressive regimes. At the same time, he distanced himself from his Western allies, launched a meaning less and unnecessary 'freedom struggle' with the institutions of the European Union, and came into conflict with the United States, Germany and many other key partners. The last move was most likely not an intened goal, only an inevitable consequence of the new strategy. The corrective capacity of Hungarian foreign policy is weak; it doesn't correct errors, but adds new ones.
